The Brain

The FOCUS-1 smart process node combines the sensor, control valve and process control functions in one unit. It is the first product launched by the FOCUS-ON joint venture established by KROHNE and SAMSON. FOCUS-1 measures the flow rate in a pipeline and positions the valve to achieve the target values. Thanks to its integrated smart features, FOCUS-1 knows its current state and can predict future conditions. It is capable of learning and can adapt to applications. As a result, FOCUS-1 can also be virtually represented as a digital twin. This allows FOCUS-1 to continue operating in the event of sensor failure based comparable, known data logged in the past.

Fast control

FOCUS-1 controls the medium flow based on the flow rate, temperature and pressure measured directly by the unit. As a result, a distributed control system is no longer required.

Quick start-up

Once FOCUS-1 has been installed in the plant, it is easy to start up the unit. Push the button to initialize FOCUS-1, change the parameters to suit your specific control task and FOCUS-1 is ready to start control according to the set point and log data for valve diagnostics.

New dimension in control

Fundamentally re-thinking and re-engineering the control valve: the combination of sensors and control valve in FOCUS-1 has opened up a wide range of new diagnostic opportunities. The enormously enhanced computing power makes it possible to use complex software applications or even artificial intelligence. The developed hardware and software architecture allows for extensive analyses and predictions on site to pinpoint wear and imminent failure at an early stage to avoid unnecessary downtime. The LEDs to indicate the valve state based on the NAMUR recommendation are visible even from a distance.
The smart process node combines sensor, control valve and process control functions in one unit. We have created an autonomous field device that knows its current state, can predict future conditions and adapt itself to applications.
Common networking technology, such as Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi®, is used in FOCUS-1 to provide easy access to diagnostic data. As a result, data can be viewed on conventional mobile devices.
The integrated approach of FOCUS-1 has given rise to a compact measuring and control unit. All necessary plant components as well as wiring and piping are fully integrated into the new mechanical unit.

  • FOCUS-ON's smart process node is already capable of detecting changes in process conditions and predicting imminent device failure. We are working on advancing the device's ability to monitor the state of the valve and plant in real time. We are currently developing an app, which can transfer field data to certified handheld terminals. In the future, you will be able to stay up to date at all times.
